Butterfly Superpowers
There is a species of swallowtail butterfly found in Australasia (made up of Australia, New Zealand, the island of New Guinea, and the neighboring islands in the Pacific Ocean) that is now holding the record for super vision. A team of scientists reports this butterfly, known as the Common Bluebottle (Graphium sarpendon), has the largest number of vision cells in its eyes for any insect. They found no less than fifteen classes of these vision cells, called photoreceptors.
